The Highmore City election was held on April 13th. In ward two, incumbent Tod Kroeplin won re-election over opposing candidates Clay Farstveet and Harlan Reed for a two year term. In ward three, Matt Semmler defeated Reta Rodman for a one year term.
At the May 3 council meeting Kroeplin will be reseated as will Vikki Day in ward three who filed for her position with no opposition. Diane Houdek filed unopposed in ward one for a two year term and will replace Jim Schroer on the council. Schroer did not file to retain his position. Houdek and Semmler will take their oaths office and be seated on the council. Jon Briggs, formerly a councilman from ward three, filed unopposed for the position of mayor being vacated by Mike Newton. Briggs will be seated for a two year term as mayor.
Briggs will appoint new council committees and the new council will begin the discharge of their duties at the May 3 meeting. One of the first items of business for the council will be hiring a utility superintendent to replace Richard Hamlin who is retiring after 30 years of service to the City.
